WELCOME to Biblical Investigations!
Biblical Investigations is a Christian Ministry dedicated to the diligent investigation of popular "Bible" doctrines as taught by various ministers, pastors, scholars, professors, theologians, and Christian organizations, and individual Christians-all of whom claim that what they are indeed teaching is truth, and that it's what the Bible teaches.
Unfortunately, many of these popular teachings are really not what the Bible teaches at all. These doctrines may be derived from Bible texts, but when investigated as to their Biblical soundness. . . when one considers what the whole of what the Bible says about these particular doctrines, they are actually found to be erroneous either in part or entirely. While all of those promoting these popular but erroneous doctrines do not purposely teach error. . . and all are sincere about what they "believe" is Bible truth, this still does not make error any less error. I believe no one willfully plans to teach error. Most really believe that what they teach is the truth, including myself.
The Apostle Paul gave specific directions as to the work of those who were appointed as church leaders. The gospel ministry of all men who have been ordained as bishops or elders in the church should include the following;
"Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake." Titus 1:9-11.
It is by "sound doctrine" that the men appointed as bishops, pastors, and elders are to entreat and refute those who teach contrary to what the Bible actually teaches. This part of their ministry is their God-given responsibility and it is necessary if the church is to maintain her health.
" 24 . . . neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. 25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more. 26 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. 27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. 28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after themselves. 31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. 32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified."
The men who were made the overseers, church leaders, elders, bishops, and pastors of the Church of God by the Holy Spirit had the responsibility to not only "feed the flock of God" but to protect the flock of God from "grievous wolves" that would enter into the church;
Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
It is a fact of Christian history that the church has been plagued throughout her existence with men, who while professing to be sheep, have wrecked havoc on the church of God like ravenous wolves. They appear to be real genuine Christians, but underneath the cloak of sheep-skin they are really ravenous wolves who will not spare any of the flock. While they camouflage themselves in sheep-skin, they seek to gain the confidence of the sheep, convince the sheep to follow them and become devoted to THEM as THEIR disciples instead of helping them to be completely devoted to the LORD Jesus Christ and His Holy Word. Instead of seeking to ground men's faith in the infallible word of God as the supreme authority in faith and doctrine, they secretly are seeking to have men put their trust in their own words, in the sayings of religious leaders, in the traditions and teachings of men.
Most of these artificial sheep are not even conscious that they are being moved upon by the enemy of souls. They are sincerely believing that they are doing God's service, but beneath the surface of the pious "ministry" of "Christian service" there is a co-mingling with an unconscious desire to gain a following for themselves.
"I have told you these things so that you won't abandon your faith. 2 For you will be expelled from the synagogues, and the time is coming when those who kill you will think they are doing a holy service for God."
If any individual or ministry is seeking to gain a following just so they can make a name for themselves, we can be sure that they are false prophets in sheep's clothing. The true principle of Christianity is to lift up Christ and Him crucified as the risen LORD of all and HE will draw all men unto Himself. John 12:32. We are not to glorify men, but God. Lift Jesus up, not the messenger.
This calls for the Biblical mandate to "prove all things and hold fast to that which is good." This is a call to investigate every wind of doctrine that men present to us as Christian truth, and to analyze it as to is validity of being Bible truth or not.
Investigation of Teachings NOT Personalities
In addressing the erroneous teachings of individuals and organizations, and pointing out where the word of truth has not been "rightly divided," there is a risk of offending those who hold to these views. It is NOT the intention of this ministry and its work to attack personalities, assassinate the characters of individuals referred too, nor question their sincerity, intelligence, their religious schooling, nor their personal salvation and Christian relationship with the Savior Jesus Christ.
While it is every Christian's duty to "prove ALL things, hold fast to that which is good" (1 Thessalonians 5:21) and to "try the spirits whether they be of God" (1 John 4:1-2), there is a danger of overshooting the target of error and end up assaulting the individual person and their reputation. True Christian investigation will not focus on individual personalities but on what is being taught. This genuine God-given right and obligation of every Christian may appear to be judging different teachers because what is being evaluated is what is coming out of their mouths, and this close association can easily spill over into personal remarks instead of just dealing with the subject of what is being taught.
Therefore, it is the intention of Biblical Investigations to focus on WHAT is being taught and NOT on WHO or WHAT KIND of person is doing the teaching (although, at times it is necessary to identify false teachers and organizations). It is our intention to "weed-out" all such derogatory, rude, unkind and uncourteous of remarks from the articles published on this site. We do not support, nor will we enter into or accept hostile discussions.
This is not an easy virtue to hold or consistently maintain. But we must be committed to doing so, even if we occationally have to confess our own shortcomings, make things right with one another as far as possible, and ask for forgiveness from those who we have hurt and offended unnecessarily.
The important issue before those who seek to know the truth is NOT "whose got the truth" but rather "WHAT IS TRUTH?" We desire the TRUTH, the whole TRUTH, and nothing but the TRUTH, so help us dear God.
Biblical Investigations is dedicated to Jesus Christ as Savior and LORD God Almighty, Who was manifested in the flesh-the WORD made flesh, full of grace and truth!
Biblical Investigations is dedicated to the study, research, and discovery of the TRUTH as it is found in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 4:15, 21.
Biblical Investigations is dedicated to sustaining the teachings of the Holy Bible, earnestly contending for "the faith once delivered to the saints" (Jude 1:3), which is in harmony with that will of God that all mankind come to "a knowledge of the truth" (II Timothy 2:25), and nothing but the truth.
Jesus declared; "Thy word IS TRUTH!" (John 17:17). This includes the entirety of the Sacred Scripture, both Old and New Testaments. It includes not only ALL the instruction given by God as taught in the Old Testament, but also ALL that Jesus Himself taught, as well as ALL that His Apostles taught in the New Testament. John 14:14-18, 23-26; 16:12-15; Acts 1:1-2*, 3-5.
"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."
Biblical Investigations is not only dedicated to teaching ALL that Jesus commanded, but also to teaching everyone, who is willing, to "observe" ALL that Jesus commanded. This means teaching people to practice in their daily lives the teachings of Christ as given in the Holy Word of God-"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God." Matthew 4:4. Too many times only selected portions from the entire teaching of the Bible are addressed. But Jesus says every word is vital to living the Christian life. Not one word should be left out of our consideration.
Before the Second Coming of Christ, especially in these last hours of Earth's history, Bible prophecy declares that there would be a great apostasy within the Christian Church (Acts 20:27-31; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-5).
In our present day and age there is indeed among contemporary Christendom a very serious problem with what men say the Bible teaches and what the Bible actually teaches. These erroneous and contradictory teachings are vast and numerous, and breed confusion.
Because of this confusing and unfortunate situation Biblical Investigations, in a sincere effort to defend Bible Truth, is therefore dedicated to the investigation and analysis of all such teachings that are being presented as sound Biblical doctrine. All examinations of the teachings of men (including my own) must be conducted under the supreme light of the Holy Word of God. We are dedicated to comparing what men teach with what the Bible actually teaches, to the intent of sustaining the truth of God's Word, while exposing what are actually the teachings and traditions of men. No man's teachings are immune from error (including my own), even though the teaching of error may be unintentional.
Biblical Investigations is also dedicated to rightly representing the views and teachings of those whom we consider to be teaching unsound and erroneous doctrine and presenting it to Christians as Biblical truth. It is unjust and unethical to misrepresent the teaching of those whom we oppose in order to sustain what we believe is Bible truth. We should not state the teachings of others as "we" think they teach them, but rather as they themselves would actually state their own teachings. Therefore, we accept all corrections honestly submitted.
Often those who oppose the teachings of people whom they believe are teaching error misrepresent or misstate their positions to prove their own teaching to be "the truth." They will state their opponent's position in such a way that it is obviously wrong or untrue, and then combat it with what they believe is true. They set up "a straw-man" that's obviously wrong and which they can then easily knock down with little if any effort. This type of methodology in combating error is not Christian nor is it fair or ethical. Therefore, we are committed to rightly representing the views of those we oppose just as they themselves would teach them. We do not intentionally or consciously desire to misrepresent anyone's views in order to make our case for Biblical truth and Christian doctrine. Biblical truth does not need any such methods to sustain it as being truth, nor does the Christian need to resort to such tactics in order to promote gospel truth.
Those who would be true to God and His Holy Word must "Study to shew" themselves "approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15. To this end is this Ministry committed.
Sincerely, in Christian Service, Pastor Richard P. Mendoza
